Above All
Above all powers, above all kingsAbove all nature, and all created thingsAbove all wisdom and all the ways of menYou were here before the world beganAbove all kingdom, above all thronesAbove all wonders the world has ever knownAbove all wealth and treasures of the earthThere's no way to measure what You're worthCrucified, laid behind a stoneYou lived to die, rejected and aloneLike a rose, trampled on the groundYou took the fall and thought of meAbove allif i speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, i am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. if i have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if i have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, i am nothing. if i give all i possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, i gain nothing.love is patient, love is kind. it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. love never fails. but where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. for we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. when i was a child, i talked like a child, i thought like a child, i reasoned like a child. when i became a man, i put childish ways behind me. now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror then we shall see face to face. now i know in part; then i shall know fully, even as i am fully known.and now these three remain: faith, hope and love. but the greatest of these is love.I have wondered and wandered dangerously about how would I live my life if I reject God, reject His teachings, His mercy, reject His fellowship, His compassion...reject His love.
I may have an awesome life; I may spend as much as I want without the thought of tithing or offerings. I may not even touch the piano or guitar because I see no purpose learning them anymore. I may have less Christian books and more mystery thrillers on my shelf. I don't need to pray before I eat, pray before I sleep...I don't even need to be kind to others! I could live as selfishly as life allows me to be.
Yet, yet and yet. If I did not know God, did not accept His love...I would find life as meaningless and confusing as the next roller coaster ride. I go up, I come down, I twirl around, and I will find myself in the same place again. Where I started.
Could God be anymore real than this?
It used to be darknessWithout YouI lived my life in blindnessBut now I'm foundAnd I'll sing I'll sing I love You soAnd I'll sing because the world can't take away Your loveMaybe that's why God gave me the talent to sing.
Found me in weaknessBrokenYou came to me in kindnessAnd now I liveAnd I'll sing I'll sing I love You soAnd I'll sing because the world can't take away Your loveThey may not agree with me...but though I may not love Him very much, I know, at least, He still loves me as much as He will when I love Him much.
And so, dearest, please wait as I pursue my Prince. Pursue Him too...I'm with you always.
